UP Board Class 10 Science important chapters are easy to identify once you look at five years of papers side by side: the same units, the same diagrams and the same two or three numerical types return each year. This guide lists the chapters by importance, the diagrams the UP Board asks, and the numericals you must be able to do, with a plan that fits a Hindi-medium student in a small-town school.
UP Board High School Science exam pattern
The UP Board High School Science exam pattern has typically been 70 marks for the written paper and 30 for the project and practical. The written paper is divided into Part A (multiple-choice questions, typically 20 marks, answered on an OMR sheet) and Part B (descriptive questions, typically 50 marks). The descriptive part is arranged by section: Physics (khand ka), Chemistry (khand kha) and Biology (khand ga), each with very short, short and long-answer questions. The UPMSP Class 10 Science syllabus follows the NCERT textbook, and the current syllabus and model paper are on upmsp.edu.in. Check it every year because UPMSP occasionally drops or adds topics.
Marks typically split almost equally between the three sections, with Physics and Biology slightly heavier than Chemistry. This matters: students who like Biology and neglect Physics numericals lose marks that are easy to collect.
UP Board 10th Science chapter wise weightage: Physics
In the Physics section the UP Board 10th Science chapter wise weightage typically concentrates on four chapters.
- Light: Reflection and Refraction. Typically 6 to 8 marks. Mirror formula, lens formula, magnification, refractive index, ray diagrams for concave mirror and convex lens. The most important Physics chapter.
- The Human Eye and the Colourful World. Typically 3 to 4 marks. Defects of vision (myopia, hypermetropia) with corrective lens diagram, dispersion through a prism, scattering (why the sky is blue).
- Electricity. Typically 6 to 8 marks. Ohm's law, resistance in series and parallel, heating effect, electric power and energy in kWh. Numericals appear almost every year.
- Magnetic Effects of Electric Current. Typically 3 to 5 marks. Right-hand thumb rule, Fleming's left-hand rule, electric motor diagram, domestic circuit and earthing.
Chemistry and Biology chapters that matter most
Chemistry in the UP Board paper is mostly reactions and reasoning. Chemical Reactions and Equations (balancing, types of reactions, corrosion and rancidity), Acids, Bases and Salts (pH, common salt derivatives like baking soda and plaster of Paris), Metals and Non-metals (reactivity series, extraction, alloys) and Carbon and its Compounds (homologous series, functional groups, soaps, ethanol and ethanoic acid properties) typically carry 4 to 6 marks each. Periodic Classification should be prepared only if it is in the current UPMSP syllabus.
Biology typically rewards diagrams and definitions. Life Processes (nutrition, respiration, transport, excretion) is the heaviest chapter at around 7 to 8 marks. Control and Coordination (neuron, reflex arc, hormones, plant hormones) and How do Organisms Reproduce (flower parts, human reproductive system, methods of contraception) typically carry 4 to 6 marks each. Heredity (Mendel's experiments, monohybrid and dihybrid ratios, sex determination) and Our Environment (food chain, ozone depletion, waste management) are shorter but reliable.
UP Board Science important diagrams asked almost every year
UP Board Science important diagrams are worth practising with a pencil, not just reading. A neat, labelled diagram often carries one or two marks on its own and makes the written answer shorter. Practise each of these until you can draw it in under three minutes:
- Ray diagrams: image formation by a concave mirror (object at C, between F and C, at F, between P and F) and by a convex lens (object at 2F, between F and 2F, at F).
- Human eye in cross-section, with correction of myopia and hypermetropia.
- Dispersion of white light through a glass prism.
- Electric motor and the domestic electric circuit.
- Human heart (four chambers, direction of blood flow) and the human excretory system with a nephron.
- Neuron and the reflex arc; human brain (cerebrum, cerebellum, medulla).
- Longitudinal section of a flower; human male and female reproductive systems.
- Open and closed stomata; the human respiratory system and the alimentary canal.
UP Board Class 10 Science numericals you must be able to solve
UP Board Class 10 Science numericals come from only three places: Light, Electricity and a little from Chemistry (mole-free, mostly simple ratios). In Light, practise the mirror formula and lens formula with the sign convention, find magnification, and calculate refractive index from speed of light values or from Snell's law. In Electricity, practise combined series-parallel resistance, current from Ohm's law, heat produced (H = I squared R t), power (P = VI) and monthly electricity bills in kWh. Write the formula, substitute with units, then the answer with units; step marks depend on this.
Use a UP Board Science previous year paper for every numerical type: five years of papers give you ten to fifteen numericals per chapter, which is enough to see the pattern. On Myrix Learn you can attempt chapter-wise practice tests in Hindi and English, and the mistakes you make return a few days later through spaced revision, so a sign-convention error in October is not repeated in February.
UP Board 10th Science preparation in Hindi: a four-month plan
UP Board 10th Science preparation in Hindi is easier when the terminology is fixed early. Make a two-column glossary (Hindi term, English term) for each chapter because the question paper uses both, and the NCERT Hindi edition sometimes uses words your teacher does not. Then follow this plan: October and November, finish all chapters with notes and diagrams, one chapter every three days; December, numericals and diagrams only, one Physics and one Biology chapter per week; January, five previous year papers with an error log; February, revision of the error log, formulas and diagrams, plus one 20-question MCQ practice daily.
The AI doubt solver in Myrix Learn is grounded in NCERT and answers in Hindi, so a doubt about why a convex lens forms a virtual image when the object is inside F gets the textbook explanation, not a shortcut. The Daily Board Dose is a short daily test on the UP Board syllabus. Pricing is ₹99 for the first month and then ₹297/month, with a study reward of 25% of the month's fee after 10 study days and 50% after 15. Offline mode and a weekly parent report are included.
